MAKESYS Overview
MAKESYS is a utility to allow a computer user to examine the
configuration options available and incorporate the desired
options into a CONFIG.SYS file.
The program is menu driven and easy to use.
First you should examine the options available to you with
your version of DOS. Many parameters are supported in all DOS
versions, while others are version dependent.
The current CONFIG.SYS file should be displayed and noted. As
MAKESYS will not add to a file, but only create a new file, old
parameters you may wish to include in a new CONFIG.SYS file will
have to be re-entered.
Lastly you can build a new CONFIG.SYS file. The parameters are
entered while diplaying the description of the option so that
syntax and ranges can be verified.
After construction the new file can be displayed.
The author hopes you find this program informative and useful.

PARAMETERS EXPLAINED
The parameters contained in the CONFIG.SYS file are varied and
perform a variety of functions. Each parameter is explained on
the screen so that they can be evaluated as to their usefulness
and value to each user. The decision on which parameters to use
is driven by different factors for every user. The information
on each parameter details the command syntax, the function,
RAM requirements and recommendations as applicable.
To display the explanation of a parameter simply select the
'PARAMETERS EXPLAINED' option at the Main Menu.
At the next Menu select which parameter you want explained.
The explanation will be display on the screen. When done press
any key to return to the Menu.
Note: When you see a valid DOS Version = 2.X this means that all
DOS Versions and sub-version starting with '2.' are valid.
I.E. - 2.X = 2.0 , 2.1 , 2.11 , etc.

EXAMINING PARAMETERS
In order to examine your current CONFIG.SYS file simply select
the 'EXAMINE YOUR CONFIG.SYS' option from the Main Menu.
The program will then ask for a Drive designation where your
CONFIG.SYS file resides. Enter the Drive Letter and press ENTER
(a colon is optional).
Your current CONFIG.SYS file will be displayed on the screen.
If you intend to modify your CONFIG.SYS file with this program
you should make note of your current parameters as MAKESYS will
always create a new CONFIG.SYS when you select the WRITE option
and not append to your existing file.
When done press any key to return to the Main Menu.

BUILDING A CONFIG.SYS FILE
After deciding which parameters and configurations to use
you may Enter, Examine and Write a new CONFIG.SYS file.
Select the 'CREATE CONFIG.SYS' option from the Main Menu.
Select the desired parameter from the list.
The Explanation for that parameter will be displayed as
a guide. The options you desire to use are to be entered on the top
the screen. Part of the parameter will be pre-entered on the screen
and you need only put in the units or file names to complete the
parameter.
EXAMPLE - you select to make a FILES parameter.
The program will display the explanation
screen and at the top prompt you with -
FILES=
You need only enter '20' to complete the
parameter - FILES=20
If you make a mistake entering the required information the
program will notify you as it edits the parameter and prompt
you to reenter the parameter.
If you have already entered a Parameter and wish to modify it
just select it again and make your changes. Selecting a Parameter
and then pressing Return without an entry will erase all existing
entries for that Parameter.
When all parameters you wish to be included in your CONFIG.SYS
file have been entered select the 'WRITE CONFIG.SYS' option on
the 'CREATE CONFIG.SYS' sub-Menu.
All entered parameters will be displayed for a last evaluation
before being written to disk. When done press any key.
A screen will appear confirming you wish to write this file
to disk. If you wish to exit without an update ,now is the time.
If you wish to continue enter a 'Y' ;To escape enter a 'N'.
Pressing 'N' does not delete the CONFIG.SYS file you were
building in memory. It may still be examined and modified.
The final screen to write the file ask for the drive letter
you wish the file written to. Enter the letter and press return.
The new file can now be examined with the 'EXAMINE CONFIG.SYS'
option at the Main Menu.
